Winter White & Coco Love

Winter is here and with it comes such happy, cozy evenings for me and my family. We're wishing for a few good snows, many warm fires, and lots of tasty warm drinks.  When I think of winter, I think of white. Sparkling white lights. Trees and houses covered in white soft snow. Glitter and shimmer, fluffy white marshmallows and gorgeous winter white fashion.  Sit back and take in some of this beautiful eye candy.

Are you inspired yet?  These dreamy images all of this gorgeous winter white and silver inspired us to create our own winter white Coco Fingerless mittens.  For mittens for myself and Scarlett, I used a combination of salvaged cream cashmere sweaters, salvaged antique lace, and buttons and embellishments from my odds and ends sewing box.

I used some (faux) pearls from a broken necklace strand to embellish the bottom.

These mittens took about an hour to whip up.... The majority of the time was spent deciding which embellishments to add to the mittens.  I really need to make some more and give them away as gifts.

Scarlett really loved her mittens too.

Incidentally, I made her little bow cloche hat from a recycled sweater too.  Would any of you like a tutorial on how to make the cloche hat?  If I get enough requests, I'll do a blog post about it.

These pictures were taken in front of Chateau Elan, a little north of Atlanta.  Our family went there for a little getaway, and it provided a perfect backdrop.  Who knew there is a French inspired Chateau only hours away from Nashville?  If any of you happen to find yourself over that way, I'd suggest stopping by this posh hotel and winery.  It's really beautiful.  It was cold and foggy that morning, but the light was still really nice.  Here are a few more pictures... hope you enjoy!

Coco mittens are made using recycled or reclaimed fabrics, which makes them as "green" as they are fabulous.  You can make a winter white inspired pair, or use a color combination of your choice.  Our Coco PDF Pattern includes sizes child - adult and includes many patterns and instructions for embellishments to create a look all you own.

We hope you enjoyed this winter white & coco love post!  Leave some love for us...   xoxo, Jessica

Fall International Quilt Market - Houston

Sometimes it may seem like things are a bit quiet over here...
Let us assure you, nearly always, it is anything but!

We've been so busy since the Quilt Market last month, we can barely catch our breath. We're just now blogging about it (tisk, tisk!) This market was so fun.  We were able to see again all of the lovely people we met at the Spring market, and make connections with new shops and new vendors.  The show room was buzzing with excited activity, gorgeous new products and lines, and amazing booths!!

Getting there was NOT easy!  After tirelessly preparing our booth and samples, we loaded up a huge cargo van and hit the road for Houston, Texas!! Hours and hours of driving later... we finally made it.
There are always a few minor hiccups......someone may have forgotten the screws to put the table legs on... gulp!  But after a mad dash through Houston, hailing cabs and racing through home depot before it closed, everything came together quite nicely.  On a side note, I now realize that I might be a great candidate for The Amazing Race.
Here are a few shots of Violette Field Threads' booth:
We had to have a double-booth space this Fall to accommodate our growing paper pattern line.  It felt so open and spacious.
We recovered the ottoman we used at the Spring market with a more season appropriate fabric for Fall.  This season we used the wonderful new Field Study line from Anna Maria Horner.
Our darling Juliette mannequins:
One of the most fun things to do at market is to take in all of the amazing eye candy of all of the new products and lines, so creatively and beautifully featured in booths!!  These are a few of my favorites:
Amy Butler had an amazing display of her Alchemy line. Seriously! Look at all of those gorgeous prints!
Tula Pink's new line: Saltwater
She never fails to impress.  It may be difficult to see, but the fabric on the couch is comprised of blue octopuses! It's to die for!
Bari J had this amazing bedroom display, I would love to have those linens!!  That coverlet has got to be one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.  My guest room is aching for it :)
Of course that's not everyone we saw, really only the tiniest fraction.  Next time we'll carry our camera around every time we leave the booth.  We know you gals love the eye candy these markets bring just as much as we do.

We had a wonderful market and hope to continue to be a part of the International Quilting and Sewing community!

Congrats ladies!  We'll be emailing you today to get your mailing address. :)

In our previous blog post, we briefly shared our plans to make Ava & Rosalind into ready-made kits.  Here they are!  Ready-made, fun, and extremely giftable kits. All materials/instructions are included to recreate the headband on the cover.

These kits include the full color 8 page instruction booklet, pattern pieces, elastic headband, and wool felt.

They are perfect for a gifting to a crafty friend, or to a friend that wishes she were more crafty :)  These little kits are so easy to complete, and the booklet/pattern pieces can be used over and over to recreate tons of these flowers in any color scheme you wish.  Here is the link to find them in our shop:  http://violettefieldthreads.com/collections/kits

A week of “Pinteresting” Dinners

Pinterest is an amazing place to find recipes.  However, I typically pin and do not cook.  So, this week I decided to cook a different pinterest recipe for dinner each night. Well, let me tell you that was a good idea!!  Wow!! There are some great recipes out there.  I thought I would share my favorite one of the week.

Gnocci with Sausage & Spinach - Real Simple

I have never had gnocci before and was a little confused by it... is it a pasta or a potato?  Well, I now know it is a little delicious potato dumpling.  The recipe was easy to follow and quick enough to make even on a school night! You simply cook up the sausage and onions, then add in:

                    •  fresh spinach
                    •  garlic
                    •  salt
                    •  pepper

Once the gnocci is cooked, you add it in along with the parmesean cheese, toss and voila your done!! A delicious meal that is fast and will not break the bank.

But will the kids eat it??

Well, this is what they thought when they sat down at the table:

However, after they tasted it they had a new opinion!

Head over to Real Simple and give this recipe a try! Let me know what you think below or tell me about an amazing pinterest recipes I need to try next!

For the love of Grey & Yellow

There is something magical about certain color combinations and that is most certainly the case of grey and yellow.

Clockwise credits: Pinterest, Sweep Me Up, Zimbio, Joel Dewberry

We found our own gorgeous yellow and grey stunner during a hunt at our local antique shop.

This vintage armoire is so amazing and has beautiful raised carvings on the front.  We thought it was absolutely perfect to use in our booth during one of the upcoming Quilt Markets.

Let us leave you with some of our adorable Violette Field Threads girls wearing our Olive, Nadine Lucy & Elise Patterns featured in grey and yellow.  We hope that our grey & yellow has inspired you.

International Quilt Market - Spring 2012

Our blog may be new, but Violette Field Threads certainly isn't!

Allow us to backtrack momentarily *just* a few months, because it would be shameful not to share our amazing trip to Kansas City, MO for the Spring International Quilt Market.  As many of you know, we started our clothing and accessory pattern company in PDF form.  About a year after opening our virtual doors, we took a leap of faith, and took our 7 most popular patterns, and transitioned them into the printed form.  Spring Quilt Market was our introduction to hundreds of retailers nationwide.

We didn't have a clue as to what we should expect.... but we are so happy to report that the response was amazing indeed!

After months of preparation our booth came together just as we had imagined.

Check out our booth:

We poured over antique stores and found our beautiful French provincial table.  However, our favorite find was the gorgeous antique frame we put around logo.

We really tried to make every detail beautiful and inviting!  We found antique chairs, painted them white, and recovered them in a cheery fabric.  Using an idea we saw from Pinterest, we used the same fabric to turn a dilapidated coffee table into an inviting ottoman.

Recovering this coffee table and turning it into a comfy ottoman wasn't very hard at all...
We each plan on doing this project again for each of our homes.
(we'll make sure to blog about that when we get around to those projects)
All and all, we were SO very happy with the outcome of our booth and our experience!

We were so honored to come home and read lovely reviews like this:

Violette Field Threads: These little girl dress and clothing patterns are unbelievable. So much fun. And their photography is killer. If you see a little one stylin’ down the street, she might just be wearing a Violette Field Threads design…Eye Candy Quilts.

Thank you for sharing our experience with us..... Stay tuned for posts about our preparation for The Fall International Quilt Market in Houston, TX later this month!
