Beautiful cape for kids who hate coats...or twirling.

This pattern is so lovely, and was easy for me to follow. I am still a beginner and my daughter loves it and gets a lot of compliments. it's really cold here right now, and she hates coats so I made it in fleece, and lined the hood only with Sherpa for extra warmth and softness. Since I used fleece, I did not finish the seams on the bottom skirt, but I did turn up the fleece 2" and hemmed, then top stitched 1/2" to make it look more finished. I'd love to make one in flannel and line with cotton.

I used a cording foot and a crochet cord to gather the bottom skirt since fleece is so heavy and I find gathering challenging.

So many possibilities for this pattern with fabrics, patterns, etc.

Not my favorite pattern but still easy beautiful

I’ll be honest, this was not my favorite make. I still would give 4 stars because the pattern was easy to follow and the cape really is beautiful. My mistake was choosing faux fur for the hood edge, it was very slippery and hard to sew. Second mistake was using satin as the main fabric, maybe having just one or the other wouldn’t be so bad but having both slippery fabrics make it very slow and tedious sewing so be careful with your fabric choices! The one thing about the pattern itself that I didn’t like is that the lining is only to the first seam, the bottom skirt part is unlined. I made this for my daughter in lieu of wearing jackets with her dresses but with such a small part being lined I don’t think it will work for that, it’ll just be a play cape. If I ever make this again I will probably make it fully lined so that it’s a bit warmer. Overall, the pattern is easy to follow and the cape comes out beautiful.
