Love love this Top and dress the instructions are perfect like all of VFT PATTERNS are even though I haven't made it yet I did read through it and it looks so easy and a fast sew I can't wait to make both!! Love this shop!!
I didn't want buttons all the way down the back, but then I read the description "Oaklyn buttons all the way down the back or can be sewn with a traditional skirt placket", so I bought it. It was frustrating to search and realize that the pattern does NOT include a traditional partial skirt placket or directions. So I figured out how to use directions from another pattern to make a partial placket and it made a really cute dress.
Very good. I thoroughly enjoyed making this dress. I found the skirt too full but I think my granddaughter thinks it is perfect.
Oaklyn was perfect pattern for grand-daughter’s Eastern dresses
I sewed the dress for my 2.5 year old who is tiny for her age. I was surprised to find the dress fitted quite firmly. I was expecting a more floaty fit. I will go 2 sizes up for my other Grandgirls aged 1 and 4.
Otherwise easy to sew and looked lovely in Liberty pink, blue, cream and purple colours.

Super Simple and Easy to Use
The Oaklyn one was super easy and super cute! I cut it out of blue seersucker and added white daisy buttons down the back. I only use Violet Fields patterns. No more trying to pin and cut tissue paper and no more trying to understand vague directions. I love their directions and with 4 granddaughters I can cut 4 sizes easily from one pattern purchase!
First time pattern user
Although I have had some basic sewing experience, I had never before used a sewing pattern let alone made such a detailed dress. Loved the clear instructions, and the photos were a life saver! There was still a bit of googling, unpicking and resewing but in the end I successfully made two adorable dresses for my two daughters so I'm pretty stoked!
Beautiful Dress!
I’ve already made 2 variations of this dress and have plans for a third. Directions are well written and easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this pattern for beginners
Wonderfull
Great pattern, easy to sew, very well explained. À princess dress that turns, my daughter loves the 2 I’ve made her.
Must have pattern.
I am still new to sewing and followed the sew along for the Oaklyn and it was tremendous help! Loved the dress I made it was stunning. Definitely a must have pattern.
Very happy with my end product
I was very excited to try this dress, and was very satisfied with the end product. I found it quite technically demanding, but was able to navigate my way through the dress construction with the help of thorough instructions, which included very good images. My constructive criticism for this pattern includes the following two points: 1. It does not come in layers options, which is a mild inconvenience as most other pattern companies now do this. I feel that if violette field threads are going to continue to avoid using layers, then the pattern lines should be colour co-ordinated (they are currently all black) for easier cutting out of the pattern. 2. I noticed that the 1 inch reference box only appeared on the first pattern page I printed. This is usually perfect, however this pattern piece was the optional flutter sleeve, and the reference box would be much better placed on the same sheet as one of the bodice pieces (it will avoid unnecessary waste of paper for people choosing not to use the flutter sleeve). Following this purchase I look forward to ordering more patterns from VFT in the future.
Oakland dress
It was great! Very easy to follow- first dress I’ve ever made. Love it!
Love it!
I pretty much only buy VFT patterns and this is probably my favorite so far. So much twirl! I thought the buttons all the way down the back would be a challenge but it was so easy! (Maybe easier than having to do a placket)
Love!
I enjoyed doing this pattern. It has helped me enjoy this time of staying at home because I absolutely love sewing! It was easy to follow and I love the addition of the pictures to help the process. I enjoyed it. I want more. Lol
My granddaughter loves her birthday dress
Love the design and amount of twirl in this design! Perfect for as 6 year old!
Great pattern
Sizing is a little off. Luckily I made your Isobel last year for Easter and knew it ran small. Making 3 this year so I asked parents to compare their child to the measurements in the pattern. Also, if large once I get to try the dresses on them, I can always move the buttons. Is there somewhere I can share pictures of the Isobel? Turned out great!
Oaklyn dress
The pattern instructions were easy to follow. I really enjoyed making this dress, and most importantly my daughter LOVES it!!
Oaklyn Top and Dress
The Oaklyn is a beautiful dress pattern and easy to sew. I love the scoop back and the ruffles on the sleeves. There is one thing that concerns me, there seems to be a discrepancy in the measurements of the skirt top and dress from the measurement chart versus the printed out version. The measurement chart shows the skirt piece longer and wider than the printed out version. I checked the 1 inch scale and it was correct, so not sure why that is?? But it is a lovely pattern I think it's my new favorite.
Love sewing the Oakland dress and my granddaughters love wearing them. I’m obsessed making number 4
Easy to sew and fits wonderful
